How does Porn Addiction develop?

  1. Early exposure. Most men who get addicted to porn start early, often as teenagers. They get exposed to porn through  magazines, movies or internet porn sites when they are very    young.
  2. Addiction. The person keeps coming back to porn. It becomes a regular part of his life. He has become hooked and can not quit. At this point, the compulsive viewing of pornography has developed into sex addiction.
  3. Escalation. After a while, escalation begins. The person starts using porn more and more, it becomes a ‘constant companion’. Besied spending more time watching porn you are also searching out and watching more graphic images to get the same high. You might even start viewing porn that previously would have repulsed you, now you find it exciting.
  4. Desensitization. Over time, even very graphic porn doesn’t give you the same rush  as it used to, you have become desensitized.
  5. Acting out sexually. Looking for the next high, many men cross a line the swore to themselves they would never cross, they  move from paper and internet images of porn to the real world.

Online porn addiction can have very serious consequences due to the isolation from real human contact and emotional connection. Real-life sex with a loving, trusted partner can be very intimate and very different than sex with an image on a screen. But this takes dedicated work, communication, and commitment. It is always going to be easier to turn on the computer for instant gratification, than struggle with developing an intimate sexual relationship, which in the end is far healthier, more satisfying and nourishing.

Here are some symptoms of porn addiction:
